There's some crazy rumor going around that American pharaoh will be at 'Fest'. I'm kind of just laughing in the corner. It would be a million kinds of awesome if he was at Breyerfest, but Breyer would have announced that a while ago if it was true. (telling the world sooner means more ticket sales over all).
On the topic of AP I'm getting really teed off at complete strangers. On the CC forums there's a discussion on why California Chrome should be a Breyer. I totally agree on the Chrome matter- I love that horse more than I love American Pharaoh- but some person posted something along the lines of this:
Yes, Breyer, please make an ACCURATE California Chrome model! And while your at it, make an ACCURATE American Pharoah model that isn't Resin or Porcelain!!!!
Can you say barf in my mouth? It's like no one saw the Sports Illustrator cover on which he looks exactly like the Ruffian mold. No one seems to realize that the Resin piece is just a more detailed version of the Ruffian, with tack and rider. It's the same pose, people. I'm seriously grounding my teeth together. First of all, Breyer is NOT making 3 Traditional scale AP models. Second of all, what do these people want? Breyer to scrape together a new mold just for him after they've released 5 other American Pharoah models in various scales, materials, and with custom tails? American Pharoah got his moment in the Breyer sunshine, it's over.
Fine fine I'll grow up now...
The next Stablemates Club model was released a few days ago; a yummy dappled grey G3 Warmblood. The Jane Lunger SMs are my favorites and I like Sylvester a lot. I'll order him later this week, possibly with another Collector Club Grab Bag.

In General
Well the general consensus of Estrela is that he is ugly, and inappropriate. I agree with the inappropriate bit, but I'm not going to complain about the 'shade of brown' and say he suffers from 'extreme ugliness syndrome'.

The Parent-Yes
So.. the final Breyerfest Special Run has been reveled. And... I don't even know where to start.
It was obvious from the beginning that it was on a Moody mold- but the second sneak peak was a puzzler, with what looked like a giant golden bouncy ball in the corner. I really thought it might be the Ethereal mold, though since the beginning of the Fest Hype I'd been thinking that the Silver mold would be the Decorator this year; because Breyer's going BIG this year.
But, despite my prediction proved right, I'm on the fence about this horse.
I'm probably just disappointed that it's not a shiny Olympic Torch horse, because I thought that concept (proposed by the Breyer History Diva) was brilliant.
But he is weird.
Weird is my thing. But this is... an intense level of weird...
A creepy lady in skimpy clothing on the tummy of a horse? Ok that's pushing my boundaries a bit...
I do find it rather amusing that, despite the lady in skimpy clothes, the horse's 'stallion parts' are blurred. That's something, right?
The rest of the model is really very cool, but the 'Samba Dancer' is just creeping me out.
This is what Breyer had to say about him in the newest blog post, where he was revealed.
This Carnival Star is on the fan favorite Pegasus version of the Silver mold. The mold was sculpted by Kathleen Moody and first introduced in 2001. Estrela do Carnaval has a rich, chocolate brown base with fiery mane, tail, and wings reminiscent of Carnivals held across Brazil. The best part? An iconic Samba dancer in costume on the horse's belly which was painted by Kathleen Moody.
I will say that the 'best part' is not the samba dancer (for me). It seems weird that Breyer decided that this design was a good choice, and (more than likely) commissioned Kathleen Moody to draw it for them.. I also have to wonder about piece count and price tag. I'm going to say he will be $85 at fest, because the paint job will cost a lot to produce (and he's a Pegasus). The demand shouldn't be huge on him so the piece count... 700 maybe? 750? I don't know, just speculation here.
His name is Estrela Do Carnivale, which I have no idea what that translates to in English. The language is Corsican, but I don't think that's really relevant.
One thing this boy won't be getting is parent approval. The design is inappropriate, and when Dad sees it in the program... he'll cover the horse with his hand when asking you to choose which 2 special runs you want.
(also what's appropriate about putting a girl in skimpy clothing on a male horse's stomach? Just... weird)
I will say he does adhere to the theme, and will be a 'neat' collectors piece some day. Over all, he is 'neat' just odd and inappropriate at the same time.
I don't think I'll be getting him. He didn't get parent approval in this house, so if I take one home it will be either snuck home, or for a friend.

shiny bits
Today was another wash.
It wasn't morbid or anything, just drab and typical.
The errand I wanted to run didn't get ran.
The internet lacked anything new and perplexing.
Meh, I'm gonna call it a wash.
I cruised the internet a bit, listened to my favorite songs on you-tube and ended up crashed out on the couch.
It did rain for a bit, which brightened my spirits a little, but boring is boring, and when you throw losing a few ebay auctions into the mix...
Fine, I'll stop complaining.
The Breyerfest tickets arrived yesterday, with those beautiful pins. My whole family is going, and something about four glittery buttons just made me thrill-crazy. (only 83 days till we leave!) Our Special Run Ticket times are good, I think. Two early Fridays, a Saturday and an early Sunday. I'm good with that.
The first Friday time slot will be used to buy these beauties:

The second Friday time will be used to buy these gorgeous gals:
Sheila
Furano
Saturday will be used for Namid, the last 'MUST HAVE' Special Run for me. I'm undecided about the others, though a Zebu will be coming home some how or another, I'm sure.

Today was a wash. Nothing worth discussing here, though, so on to the ponies.
The latest thing to fascinate me? An old post on the Collector Club forums from early 2014, featuring a photo of a flyer. One of my close friends made the photo known to me, and now it's buggin the cheese out of me. The photo? This:

I am going to ramble now, so keep with me.
Do you're natural instincts deceive you? No they don't. This is the same model that was on the Collector Club Banner for so long.
All the other models in the photo were released. Some as very limited runs, sure, (Silver Screen, Red Velvet, Fandango... all are limited (some to an extreme extent) except that Nobel (or Templado, can't quite tell) chillin out back there). So where does leopard boy fit in? The rest of the pretty boys aren't tests, so where would a test fit in? Maybe he wasn't intended to be a test. And maybe he's not.
When was this banner taken down and exchanged for the current one? Sometime in 2014, I believe. When the Andalusian banner was added I'm not sure. Perhaps as early as 2012, when the Collector Club first began. All the models (except possibly 'The Appy') were made a few years before the club started, and if Breyer really does have a copy of every model, then the banner needs little explanation. They took a photo of a portion of their Andalusion conga for a promo. No biggy.
But 'The Appy'... my guess is that he may have been in the development phase when the banner photo was taken. As in that model is the actual test (and the same model in the flyer photo- their spots do match). To call him a test color would be a stretch. The test color for the paint job is elsewhere. Or is it?
Take a deep breath and think about my proposal, which is incorrect, but it flashed through my mind when I first saw the flyer photo. Was this Andalusion a test for the Sheik af Hallundbaek paint job? No, I don't think so, even though the dates add up relatively well. Let's say the 'The Appy' was made in early 2008. He was a test color, he just was. Then Sheik's owners gave them a call, and they started making Sheik. But at one point they needed to print a promotional flyer, featuring Sheik, and Sheik wasn't ready. Bam, they tossed in this Appy to fill in. (this sort of thing happened every day in the old days). The 'post writer' doesn't say how long ago 'some years ago' is, but it could be six and a half. My biggest question now is Was it a Breyer employee who offered to sell this horse to you? Breyer may have whipped up a small batch of these Appys for promotional purposes. But a very small batch, like 3. My second biggest question is, Was it in the classic Breyer packaging? Whether or not the person who wrote the post is still active on the forums I don't know. But I'll try and find out.

Another thing worth mentioning is that the only model of the four on the page that was released is the Bay Roan Draft. (as far as I can tell). I don't know anything of the 'brown Dun Pony' or 'Tennessee Walking Horse'. (Although it feels like the TWH could be a gallery piece, but I'll dig into that in a moment.)
One more theory is that this model was planned for production, and the pre-production piece was featured in the CC banner photo for promotional reasons. They put the model in a flyer and made some samples of him. They went to a show and offered the samples for sale, and let people take a look at the flyer. Then, he was suddenly canceled. In this scenario 'The Appy' would be made in 2011, making him available for the 2012 photo shoot.
His appearance in the Banner could just be a fluke. Breyer was just taking a photo of their Andalusions, and he happened to be at the end of the conga. But his appearance in the flyer? Nope, couldn't be a fluke.
Another theory is that he was made as an Employee Appreciation Model, and one employee took his model to a 'Trade Show' and put it for sale. The Flyer? Perhaps he was crafty and printed up a little something, featuring other tests he had seen. Because, the Bay Roan Draft was once just as elusive as this Appy now is.
Think about it. If the writer of the post really did take this photo of a flyer at a trade show 'some years ago' the photo wasn't taken in 2014. But 2014 was when the Bay Roan Draft was released. At the time, the Bay Roan was also unknown. This leaves us with a ray of hope; The Appy might still be produced.
As for the Tennessee Walker, it does strike a resemblance to the Peter Stone Tennessee Walker. But who'm it reminds me of most is the Gallery piece 'Dixie Land Grand' who I was very fond of (and still am). Perhaps they were testing the mold in plastic (as I'd love to see it that way) and took a photo of it for this flyer?
Maybe all the pieces originally in the flyer were work-in-progresses. We don't know, perhaps the top of the flyer read 'Things to Come' or something of similar meaning.
My third big question? Why did you not take a photo of the whole flyer, post writer?
Or maybe the photo is all just bogus hooey.

grails
I have my Grails. Some of them are:

-Breyer Glossy Big Chex to Cash

There are plenty more. In fact, the list probably totals 1,000 if I would go to the trouble of digging through every site and alcove of the hobby and picking out which delectable plastic delights I found tasteful. I know of about 400 Peter Stone One of a Kind and 5 or under piece runs that I have a passion for. I mean, really, really, passionate about. I shouldn't go into details, except to say that no matter the passion, the money wasn't there. I sometimes cry about it. I can recall several times when I watched such hard to find grails fade away for three digit price tags that were unjustifiable for me.
Some of my grails (not listed) are grails not because of their piece run, but because they're hard to acquire. I've wanted a Cedric and Wind Talker for a long time, but I've never been in the right place at the right time.
Other grails are customs. Yes, customs. I often dream that at Breyerfest I walk into a room with all the beautiful customs I had ever dreamed of, bid on and lost, or couldn't afford all on one table, waiting for me. I often cross my fingers that such a miracle will take place, but the odds remain against me.
Grails aren't supposed to be easily acquired. Sometimes they are but most times they aren't. I have three of my grails, though I decided they were 'grails' when the term was still new to me, and could be used loosely. Not to say that my 3 grails are none the less special to me (actually, they all have profound meaning to me), just that they aren't as true to the term 'grail' as I once considered them to be.
One of those grails is Flame, the Traditional on the Running Stallion mold. On my... 8th Birthday... I received him. The Island Stallion was my most favorite book in the whole world, and having a horse like Flame? Epicness! (epic is my favorite word, btw) I was still in the carpet head phase of my hobby career then, but Flame? No, Flame I couldn't take out of the box. That glistening pony was something to show off and stare at. Besides, I could have never role played his story as well as Walter Farley had told it.
To this day he is still in his box, though he might be more special than the average Flame. He's in a box... in the garage... some where... but I have a hunch he may be glossy. I packed him up quite a logn time ago, and can't remember his exact level of shininess. But even if the hunch is wrong, it won't effect his level of specialness. His level of specialness.. is one for the books.

I know of about 400 Peter Stone One of a Kind and 5 or under piece runs that I have a passion for. I mean, really, really, passionate about. I shouldn't go into details, except to say that no matter the passion, the money wasn't there. I sometimes cry about it. I can recall several times when I watched such hard to find grails fade away for three digit price tags that were unjustifiable for me.
Some of my grails (not listed) are grails not because of their piece run, but because they're hard to acquire. I've wanted a Cedric and Wind Talker for a long time, but I've never been in the right place at the right time.

Other grails are customs. Yes, customs. I often dream that at Breyerfest I walk into a room with all the beautiful customs I had ever dreamed of, bid on and lost, or couldn't afford all on one table, waiting for me. I often cross my fingers that such a miracle will take place, but the odds remain against me.
Grails aren't supposed to be easily acquired. Sometimes they are but most times they aren't. I have three of my grails, though I decided they were 'grails' when the term was still new to me, and could be used loosely. Not to say that my 3 grails are none the less special to me (actually, they all have profound meaning to me), just that they aren't as true to the term 'grail' as I once considered them to be.
One of those grails is Flame, the Traditional on the Running Stallion mold. On my... 8th Birthday... I received him. The Island Stallion was my most favorite book in the whole world, and having a horse like Flame? Epicness! (epic is my favorite word, btw) I was still in the carpet head phase of my hobby career then, but Flame? No, Flame I couldn't take out of the box. That glistening pony was something to show off and stare at. Besides, I could have never role played his story as well as Walter Farley had told it.

To this day he is still in his box, though he might be more special than the average Flame. He's in a box... in the garage... some where... but I have a hunch he may be glossy. I packed him up quite a logn time ago, and can't remember his exact level of shininess. But even if the hunch is wrong, it won't effect his level of specialness. His level of specialness.. is one for the books.
The Best of All
I have to say, Bozeman is lovely. Definitely the nicest paint job so far, if the pictures don't lie. He's my first choice for the SR line, followed by Sheila. The second time in the line I'll aim for Furano and and Namid. (Namid's been growing on me... really growing on me.) My whole family got 3 Day Tickets, so if one of the Special Runs isn't in stock at one ticket time, well then I have 3 more chances.
I haven't really decided if I want Mamacita Y Chico yet. They're nice but they just aren't doin it for me. I have time to decide.
And yes, in case you were wondering, I am saving up money for Breyerfest. I don't want money to be my restriction in the Special Run line, and taking a break from buying ponies till then will be well worth it.

Sporting a coon tail, blue eyes, and tobiano markings, his paint job is beautifully bold. I really just love everything about him, he makes a statement. I can't wait to see him in person- if he looks even better than he does in pictures, I'll be amazed, as he looks pretty darn fabulous in digital image.
